BLOOMINGTON – Evergreen Memorial Cemetery in Bloomington honored those who have fallen on duty by hosting “Avenue of Flags” Sunday.
200 flag poles were posted around the cemetery with the names of veterans for people to drive around and say the names out loud.
Flags were available for visitors to place on tombstones to pay their respects.
A staff member of the cemetery said 12 more names were requested to be posted in the cemetery.
The American Legion Honor Guard Post 635 Normal and 56 Bloomington will host an event Monday at 11 a.m. at the cemetery.
The ceremony will include a replica of the tomb of the unknown soldier and a communal military rites ceremony for families whose loved ones did not receive their military rites.
