BLOOMINGTON – The City of Bloomington is falling in line with new CDC guidance. They will no longer require masks and social distancing in city buildings for those who are fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
However, they are asking those who have not been fully vaccinated to continue wearing masks and social distancing. The enforcement of such guidance will be a virtual ‘honor system.’ Staff will not be asking visitors for proof of vaccination.
The City Council also broaching several other topics during Monday’s meeting.
A unanimous vote approved leasing agreements for Grossinger Motors Arena and the US Postal Service location in the Market Street Garage.
The Bloomington-Normal Convention and Visitors Bureau will occupy parts of the first floor and all of the second floor of Grossinger Motors Arena. The 5-year lease will cost $2100 a month.
The Postal Service location at 400 North Center Street has been leased to the USPS since 1976. The council voted to extend that for 18 months.
The council also voted unanimously to approve $5.1 million from the capital improvement fund to go toward road improvements. It’s part of an overall $7.2 million going to improving city streets.
Council member Jamie Mathy asked the city to be more transparent about individual construction projects to better keep citizens informed on exactly what’s happening in their neighborhood.
“People can contrast and compare to go, ‘Oh my block on Madison street has this going on that’, you know they could know we’re aware. We’re trying to create a plan to move forward. I think that could help if it could get put out there,” explained Mathy.
