NORMAL – The Town of Normal is aligning its mask requirements for public facilities and employees with the guidance from the governor’s office and CDC.
Mayor Chris Koos issued COVID-19 Emergency Order 21-001 Friday, which means the town will not impose any mask or social distancing requirements more restrictive than those set forth.
- Fully vaccinated Individuals may enter all Town facilities, property, and rights-of-way without complying with mask requirements and are encouraged (but not required) to comply with social-distance requirements while on Town facilities, property, and rights-of-way.
- All individuals not fully vaccinated must comply with all mask requirements and social-distancing requirements as set forth in EO21-10 while on Town facilities, property, and rights-of-way.
“The Town’s order formally provides guidance to Town of Normal employees and the use of masks in Town facilities,” said Koos. “The Town has always followed the guidance of the CDC and state and local health officials and will continue to do so. Private businesses will make their own decisions about guidance they provide to employees and customers.”
Exceptions
Some exceptions to the order exist:
- The first floor of Uptown Station is a public transit center and masking is required.
- The Children’s Discovery Museum is following guidelines for educational facilities asking visitors to do their part by wearing face masks/coverings during scheduled visits and adhering to social distancing.
Meanwhile, when the state enters enter Phase 5, the town plans to return to in-person council meetings. Currently, Phase 5 may be reached in mid-June, making the first anticipated in-person council meeting likely to happen June 21.
