SPRINGFIELD – Supporters of a bill to standardize election procedures across Illinois do not arise from claims President Biden’s victory last fall was fraudulent.
“Recent elections have certainly raised some issues and doubts in the minds of voters nationally and throughout the process of election administration,” said Don Gray, the Sangamon County clerk, maintaining Illinois has an excellent reputation for sound elections. “Election administrators’ challenge now is providing confidence. We know we provide a great product. We know that we provide a secure and accountable system of elections, but the public has to have confidence in knowing how we operate.”
One example of how the proposal would work is that someone receiving training as an election judge in, say, Jo Daviess County would get the same training as an election judge in Alexander County.
