SPRINGFIELD – When the water utility is privatized, the private owner sees the money flow like … water, according to the Citizens Utility Board.
“Selling a big water system is a big deal, because it cedes control from local officials to a private company,” State Sen. John Connor (D-Lockport) told a Citizens Utility Board virtual news conference Monday. “I filed SB 164 to make sure the taxpayers have an individual voice before a fundamental service is sold away from their control.”
Compared to a family of four, “I cannot imagine if I pay $60 a month, how much they pay,” said Magdalena Solarz of Glenview, who was also on the Zoom call.
“You have to have water to live!”
