NORMAL – Many teachers and staff in Unit 5 have had the opportunity to get a COVID-19 vaccine, according to Superintendent Dr. Kristen Weikle.
Weikle says around 65% of the staff have received at least one shot, with some already fully vaccinated.

“We’ve worked with our health department and other entities to find opportunities for our staff to get vaccinated,” Weikle told WJBC’s Scott Miller. “Of course, this is optional for staff, this is not required. So like any organization, the majority of our staff it appears will take advantage of the opportunity, and some are choosing not to maybe right now for various reasons.”
Unit 5 is currently offering in-person learning five days a week for elementary students.
Junior high and high school students are still learning in-person twice a week, but the district is currently surveying parents about a return to five days a week.
