SPRINGFIELD – State and Sangamon County leaders showed off central Illinois’ regional mass vaccination site Thursday. It’s at the Orr Building at the state fairgrounds.
Adjutant General Richard Neely of the Illinois National Guard says it’s apt that the forces are deployed to the clinic.
“The National Guard is a unique resource of the state,” the general told a news conference Thursday. “A lot of times in Illinois, you’ll see the National Guard supporting flood fighting and those kinds of things. We see in some cases in some national emergencies, whether it’s hurricanes or firefighting, you’ll see states helping each other out. But with COVID-19, every state is in the middle of it.”
