BLOOMINGTON – A home near downtown Bloomington was destroyed Sunday night by a fire.
Fire crews were called around 8:30 p.m. to the 300 block of South Gridley Street. Firefighters reported heavy flames coming from the rear of the home.
First responding units initiated an offensive strategy with crews going to the basement, according to the Bloomington Fire Department. Crews transferred to a defensive strategy, fighting the fire from the exterior, after conditions in the house became unsafe. Due to freezing conditions and additional calls throughout the city, off duty personal were called in to supplement the on duty crews.
Units were on scene throughout the night and into the morning with the final unit leaving at 11:01 a.m.
No injuries were reported. Three adults were displaced and the Red Cross is assisting.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation and the home is considered a complete loss.
