BLOOMINGTON – Longtime WJBC morning show host Scott Laughlin was honored by the Salvation Army of Bloomington for raising the most money in the “celebrity” category for the annual red kettle Christmas campaign.
Laughlin and his friend Gary Morefield have been doing the Cubs/Cardinals challenge for over 10 years to help raise money at the red kettles. This year, the challenge raised $2,596.
“Awards mean nothing to me, the money raised goes for a wonderful cause and helps a lot of families out,” Laughlin told WJBC’s Scott Miller. “Especially in a time like this when people are struggling to make it paycheck to paycheck, and that is if they are even getting a paycheck at all. Couldn’t do it without the help of Gary Morefield and the generous gifts from Dr. Wilson Movic and his wife Susan, and all of the people that showed up at Hy-Vee.”
The Salvation Army of Bloomington exceeded its fundraising goal this year, bringing in $577,538. That money helps fund local programs including the food pantry and Safe Harbor Homeless Shelter.
