BLOOMINGTON – Bitter cold air has settled in across central Illinois and more snow is expected Wednesday and over the next week.
Heart of Illinois ABC Chief Meteorologist Brian Walder says temperatures will remain in the teens and low single digits over the next week.
“We could have a few days we get lucky and get a little bit closer to 30 degrees, but it’s a very stubborn pattern and it shouldn’t budge for about a week-and-a-half,” Walder told WJBC’s Marc Strauss. “Definitely want to stress the dangerous cold, especially during the overnight hours. Some of these wind chills get to 15 or 20 below zero, that is when frost bite becomes an issue.”
We should stay below 20° for at least the next 8 or 9 days. It has to get warmer eventually, right? pic.twitter.com/23M8x2VXnB

Walder says the coldest stretch could be this weekend. State public health officials are advising people to dress in layers and cover your ears, forehead and lower part of your face since those are the areas most susceptible to frostbite.
Smaller rounds of snow are also expected Wednesday and several other days over the next week, says Walder.
