BLOOMINGTON – A Bloomington Doctor says some people are experiencing mild symptoms after receiving their second dose of the COVID-19 vaccination, but that’s a good sign.
Dr. John Wieland, Medical Director of Acute Care Services at Carle BroMenn Medical Center, told WJBC’s Scott Miller, people usually experience symptoms within 12 to 18 hours.
“That response or that reaction is simply your immune system sort of ramping up into an antibody making machine.”
Wieland said some people experience symptoms in less than 24 hours; however, that depends on the person.
Even though it’s uncomfortable to feel that way, you can at least take some psychological comfort in knowing that that’s a response that you really, your body is doing what that vaccine is programming it to do, which is to kick out antibody’s against the virus. That’s actually kind of a strange way a good sign.”
