BLOOMINGTON – Authorities believe a Gridley man who was a much sought-after fugitive until his capture in Woodford County over the weekend had some help committing various crimes.

Police said they arrested Todd Kelly, 36, after he allegedly stole a Ford Transit van in El Paso, then led officers on a high-speed chase that ended on Interstate 39 near Minonk.

Earlier, police took into custody a woman they identify as Kelly’s accomplice, Alyssa Thrasher, 21.

She’s being held in the McLean County Jail after prosecutors charged her with possession of a stolen Subaru sport utility vehicle and a residential burglary that happened last Thursday in Danvers.

Thrasher has to post a $10,000 cash bond to be released from jail. Prior to his arrest, Kelly was wanted on a McLean County warrant for possession of a stolen vehicle. Local prosecutors have yet to file additional charges. He’s being held in the Woodford County Jail.

Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

In these troubled times, to my fellow white Americans

By Mike Matejka Our nation is at a unique watershed in human relations. African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
