SPRINGFIELD – The state’s trying to promote the coronavirus vaccine as a good thing.
Mistrust of vaccines skews toward the Black community, and the governor’s office patched in Bonnie Blue, a 68-year-old Black woman who’s been on life support many times because of her asthma. But she was pleased to participate in a vaccine trial.
“When you are sick like that, it is important to have friends and family and even health care professionals that are there to hold your hand, to say something to make you smile, to make you feel like you’re going to be all right,” said Blue via video link. “Unfortunately, with this virus, patients don’t have that option.”
Gov. JB Pritzker said the vaccine could land in Illinois next week or even sooner.
The governor says the vaccine could land here this weekend or next week. Illinois is announcing 7,910 new cases and 145 deaths.
