Central Illinois Regional Airport achieves perfect score as FAA conducts virtual inspections

BLOOMINGTON – Central Illinois Regional Airport in Bloomington is celebrating a perfect inspection from the Federal Aviation Administration.

It’s the eighth such rating in the last 10 years, but this inspection was done virtually with the airport sending over 400 documents. Those records include firefighting operations, airfield inspections, and personnel training records, said Deputy Director of Marketing, Fran Strebing.

“There are many things that go into that from the time the flight is arriving and getting on to our airfield, to turning around and going back out,” said Strebing.

“We have to keep our airfield in particular conditions so that it’s in good shape,” she added.

An in-person FAA inspection will happen at some point. Strebing said a challenge facing the airport is bringing back flights and making sure travelers during the pandemic.

American, Allegiant, Delta, and Frontier all fly to and from CIRA.
