BLOOMINGTON – District 87 administrators are proposing to lighten the load on seniors at Bloomington High School, who face the prospect of finishing their studies remotely next spring because of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
Administrators presented to the school board Wednesday night a plan to reduce graduation requirements for second semester seniors, including eliminating final exams, which make up 20% of the permanent grade. Instead, the running semester grade would be counted.
Also, seniors could choose to take only the classes they need for graduation, and not enroll in any elective courses, according to our news partner HOI ABC.
The easing of requirements, due to the pandemic, aims to give students flexibility and focus on their college or career plans.
The school board will vote on the proposed changes at the November 11 meeting.
