NORMAL – The governing board for Heartland Community College is supporting plans for the school to expand its offerings in agriculture.
The Board of Trustees Tuesday night approved the Career and Technical Education curriculum for agriculture, which includes a two-year associate’s degree requiring 60 credit hours.
A report to the board says students will “combine general education and agriculture core classes with hands-on experience” in Agriculture Business, Agronomy, or Precision Agriculture, which refers to technology and data use in agriculture management.
The program also offers four certificates and two micro-certificates requiring fewer credit hours in various agriculture fields.
The program goes to the Illinois Community College Board for final approval.
Heartland Community College District 540 serves a corridor along Interstate 55 that includes Pontiac, Bloomington-Normal, and Lincoln.
