BLOOMINGTON – Unit 5 preschool, kindergarten through second graders and sixth through ninth graders returned to in person learning October 19th.
Students and staff returned in a hybrid format. They will go to class in-person two days and remote for the other three days.
Students had the option to stay fully remote or opt to the hybrid model. Unit 5’s superintendent, Dr. Kristen Weikle, said 76% of the students are returning to the hybrid model.
There will be changes in an effort to help social distance. No more than 50 people are allowed on a bus and gym classes will not use locker rooms.
“The high schools for example, they’re really large and the fact that one of our high schools has over 2,000 students, so in order to socially distance that many students at lunch would be impossible if we had all students back so we had to have a hybrid approach,” said Weikle.
Weikle said there would be seating charts for classes, lunches and buses to be able to contact trace if any students or staff members contract COVID-19.
The rest of the grades for Unit 5 will return to in-person learning October 26th.
