BLOOMINGTON – McLean County gathered to cheer on and support their local first responders Sunday afternoon at the Corn Crib.
At the “Support the Red White and Blue Rally,” police officers, firefighters and healthcare providers battled one another in a friendly game of softball.
The McLean County Republicans hosted the event, with Representative Rodney Davis throwing out the first pitch.
This event hit home for Davis as he recalled the 2017 shooting at the congressional baseball practice, where first responders protected his life.
“I got a chance to really thank law enforcement,” Davis said. “I wouldn’t be alive today without the courage of two African American Capital Police officers running toward gunfire a few years ago, so me and my friends could run off of gunfire at a baseball field in Virginia.”
The rally also hosted a “Ball Dive for Charity” with three local organizations fundraising, including the Boys and Girls Club, Community Healthcare Clinic and Team Blue Line.
