BLOOMINGTON – There will soon be a vacancy on the Bloomington City Council.
Scott Black announced at Monday night’s council meeting that he won’t be able to complete his term, which expires next spring because he and his wife have bought a home outside of Ward 7.
Black expects his resignation will take effect toward the end of October after serving nearly eight years representing northwest Bloomington.
Black announced in June he would not run for reelection, but expected at the time that he would complete his current term.
“It’s been an absolute honor to serve on the council, and represent Ward 7 these past nearly eight years,” Black said.
Mayor Tari Renner said Black’s departure is “bittersweet,” but nothing was said at the council meeting about who would fill the remaining six months of Black’s term.
So far, only one candidate, Kelly Cumpston, has announced intentions to run for Black’s council seat. Cumpston currently serves on the Bloomington Property Maintenance Review Board. He’s a construction company project manager and oversees affordable housing projects in the state.
