BLOOMINGTON – Crews from Corn Belt Energy are departing for Louisiana to assist with Hurricane Laura storm restoration efforts.
The hurricane caused damage and power outages to hundreds of thousands of people as it ripped through portions of Louisiana and eastern Texas.
One of the electric cooperatives directly hit by the hurricane, Jeff Davis Electric Cooperative, reported 100% of their electric system without power due to extensive storm damage including downed lines, damaged poles and severe flooding.
Corn Belt is sending two crews consisting of four journeymen lineman and two forestry journeymen to assist in emergency storm restoration efforts.
Corn Belt Energy is one of 11 Illinois electric cooperatives sending crews to assist in rebuilding shattered electric systems in the wake of Hurricane Laura.
