BLOOMINGTON – Local health officials on Monday reported six new cases of coronaviurs, bringing the McLean County total to 645.

There are currently 101 active cases all isolating at home, according to the McLean County Health Department. There are no residents in the hospital due to COVID and 529 people have been released from isolation and are considered recovered. There have been 15-COVID related deaths in the county.

The county’s rolling seven-day positivity rate is 1.8%.

While some people are more likely than others to become severely ill, everyone is at risk for getting COVID-19 if they are exposed to the virus,” said MCHD Administrator Jessica McKnight. “In McLean County nearly half of the confirmed cases have been under the age of 30.  The 40-49 age range has seen the second highest rate of positive cases after individuals in their 20s.”

McKnight is encouraging people to  practice personal prevention measures. Stay home if you are sick; wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds especially after you have been in a public place; avoid close contact with people who are sick; cover coughs and sneezes;  clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces.

Meanwhile, the Illinois Department of Public Health announced 1,319 new cases of COVID-19 and one additional death. The statewide rolling seven-day positivity rate is 4.1%.

Pritzker, recall another Illinois Governor who protested the incursion of armed federal personnel into the city.   Those federal troops, rather than calming, escalated the situation, leading to deaths and violence. In these troubled times, to my fellow white Americans

By Mike Matejka Our nation is at a unique watershed in human relations. African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
