Coroner: Body found in Illinois River

CREVE COEUR – Authorites found the body of an 18-year-old woman Sunday morning in the Illinios River.

Tazewell County Coroner Charles Hanley said the woman’s name is being withheld until family is notified. More information will be released Monday afternoon.

Hanley said round 8:16 a.m, an employee of the Peoria Lock and Dam alerted police that a body was seen in front of an anchored barge in the Illinois River.

Creve Couer and Fondulac Park Police responded to the scene. The remains were recovered and brought ashore to the United States Coast Guard Station dock in East Peoria.

This case remains under investigation by East Peoria Police and the coroner’s office.
