PEORIA – Bradley University confirms to our news partner Heart of Illinois ABC that eight members of its orientation program have tested positive for the coronavirus.
In a statement to the university community, Bradley officials say “Our process, including aggressive contract tracing from the initial suspected case, led us to do additional testing at the first indication of the virus’s presence.”
“Consistent with our processes, we are now working through identifying any additional potential exposures so that we can contain the situation. The campus individuals immediately affected in this case have been contacted and have either already tested or are being scheduled for testing. They are also quarantined for a minimum of 14 days,” the statement adds.
The University is working with the Peoria City/County Health Department to do further contact tracing and to obtain details on the full scope of the situation.
For contact tracing, Bradley University will use the following notification process:
- Close contact – If you were identified as someone who was within 6 feet for more than 15 minutes with someone who tested positive for COVID-19, you will receive a phone call and/or text message from Bradley University Health Services. Action will be needed.
- Contact – If you are not at risk, but you have some connection with a person who tested positive you will receive an email message from the university. Action in this case is NOT needed unless you begin to develop symptoms.
