NORMAL – The new superintendent of Unit 5 explained how plans were made for the upcoming semester amid the coronavirus pandemic.
Dr. Kristen Weikle, who appeared in her first Unit 5 board meeting Wednesday night, spoke with WJBC’s Scott Miller.

“You know the decisions I made and recommended to the school board, and therefore they acted on, were not just Kristen Weikle’s opinions,” she said. “They were based on data and recommendations from the Illinois State Board of Education, the Illinois Department of Public Health and McLean County Health Department.”
The school board approved the plan Wednesday night. It includes an option for families – in-person learning or online education.
All students and staff in Unit 5 will be required to wear face coverings when they’re at school.
