BLOOMINGTON – McLean County prosecutors have charged a man after allegedly using a cigarette lighter to cause burns to a young child just after Christmas 2019.
Javon Robinson, 30, who has recently lived in Normal and Springfield, faces five felony counts, including two counts of aggravated battery causing permanent disfigurement, two counts of aggravated domestic battery, and aggravated battery to a child under 13 causing great bodily harm.
According to Normal Police Chief Rick Bleichner, a local daycare center contacted Normal Police on December 27 after discovering suspicious marks on the child’s body.
Bleichner said the child had burns in several places on his body, including his face and stomach.
It was later determined the burns were caused by a cigarette lighter, Bleichner said.
Robinson is on parole after being sentenced for robbery and drug-related charges in McLean and Cook counties, so he’ll return to the custody of the Illinois Department of Corrections. His next court appearance is set for July 24.
