NORMAL– The Bloomington-Normal NAACP is joining the Normal West Black Student Union for a march next week in opposition to racist posts on social media.
In a statement, the groups say local white students were involved in posts on Facebook, TikTok, Snapchap and Instagram. The video with the posts shows a young girl in blackface and using racial slurs.
In a statement released from the NAACP, they write, “The postings are inexcusable and further dismantles the theory that blatant and systemic racism does not exist,”
The march is scheduled for Monday, June 29 at 5:00 p.m., starting at Normal West High School. Participants will walk to Parkside Elementary School.
The statement goes on to say that local police and the McLean County Sheriff’s Office were notified of the posts because students are traumatized by the actions of the young people involved.
