Council reconvenes after technical issues

BLOOMINGTON– The Bloomington City Council had a re-do of Monday night’s meeting on Wednesday.

Several items were passed quickly and unanimously. The city approved a grant application for a sewer overflow elimination project. It would be funded by ‘Rebuild Illinois Grants’ along with a small city contribution. The total for the project would be around $4.67 million with Bloomington footing only $170,000 of it.

Additionally, the council voted to extend the ‘State of Emergency’ in Bloomington which will allow outdoor dining to continue. News Partner, Heart of Illinois ABC reports 6th ward Alderwoman Jenn Carrillo said the Downtown area feels alive since it opened outdoor seating and she’d like that feeling to become a permanent fixture.

With the local emergency still in effect, the council also voted to approve a 90-day moratorium on “interest, fines, and penalties” that businesses may owe the city. The 90 day period will begin at the onset of Phase 4. That could be as early as Friday.

The council also voted ‘Yes’ on a motion that will accept a new 3-year contract with Machinist Lodge 1000. This specifically affects Public Works employees. The contract will provide a pay increase of 2.5% in year 1, 3% in year 2, and 2.5% in year 3.
