SPRINGFIELD – With 852 districts to oversee, Illinois State Board of Education superintendent Carmen Ayala says you cannot have a “one size fits all” approach to reopening schools this fall.
“I think that you will find the guidance that the Illinois State Board of Education is putting out is rather complete and tries to address as many situations as possible,” Ayala said at a Chicago news conference Tuesday, “so it is the collaboration between the district administrators, the school administrators, and their respextive county health departments to work together in developing the plan that meets the needs of their respective community.”
Ayala joined other education leaders and Gov. JB Pritzker in announcing guidance for back-to-school. As Ayala said, the idea is to allow individual districts to tailor the guidelines to their own needs. This could include, for example, more distance learning in one district than in another.
