BLOOMINGTON – Miller Park Zoo is gearing up to open its doors this weekend as the state is set to enter Phase 4 of Restore Illinois on Friday.

The zoo will be open to members only for the opening weekend starting at 9 a.m. Friday.

The public will then be allowed to visit after this weekend.

Visits will be through appointment only by calling 309-434-2250. The reservation process will begin at 8 a.m. Monday.

“We are excited to open the doors to the public,” says Jay Tetzloff, Miller Park Zoo director. “We wanted to thank our members with this opening weekend opportunity.”

After the opening weekend the reservation process will be open to non-members. No walk up ticketing will be available at Miller Park Zoo, according to officials.

“The reservation system gives us better control on how many guest are on the Zoo grounds,” Tetzloff told our news partner, Heart of Illinois ABC. “Keeping the number of visitors at 50 or less ensures an added level of safety for all as well as the animals in our care.”

To help with social distancing there will be a one-way path through the zoo. Masks will be required for all our guests 3 years and older.

The carousel, petting zoo, water fountains, Zootique and concessions will be closed during this portion of our opening.

Pritzker, recall another Illinois Governor who protested the incursion of armed federal personnel into the city.   Those federal troops, rather than calming, escalated the situation, leading to deaths and violence. In these troubled times, to my fellow white Americans

By Mike Matejka Our nation is at a unique watershed in human relations. African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
