SPRINGFIELD – Despite the wet weather, Illinois two big cash crops made progress last week.
“Topsoil supplies were rated 53 percent adequate and 47 percent surplus. It’s still pretty wet out there,” said USDA National Agricultural Statistics Service Illinois statistician Mark Schleusener. “The average rainfall was 1.2 inches, one quarter inch above normal.”
Corn is two-thirds emerged, with 55 percent reported in good-to-excellent condition. Soybeans are 65 percent planted and 37 percent emerged.
