BLOOMINGTON – The annual summer festival in Bloomington-Normal that recognizes Abraham Lincoln has been canceled due to the coronavirus.
“In the interest of the safety of our community, volunteers, partners, and organizers, in light of the continued COVID-19 situation regionally and nationally, it is with heavy hearts that the Board of Directors for Lincoln’s Festival on Route 66 (LF66) announce the cancellation of the July 18, 2020 annual festival,” according to a news release Wednesday.
Each summer the festival draws approximately 4,000 visitors. Events include a variety of lectures/talks, a guided tour of Lincoln sites, a strolling Lincoln impersonator, a classic car cruise-in, a Civil War camp/re-enactment, a bicycle show, and vintage old-time baseball games.
The board says plans are already underway to hold the festival again in 2021 the third weekend in July.
