BLOOMINGTON – The director of the Illinois Department of Public Health Dr. Ngozi Ezike says delivering updates each day about COVID-19 is difficult, especially when it includes Illinoisans who have lost their lives.
Ezike joined the Scott Miller Show Thursday morning on WJBC. She says right now it’s unknown when the state can return to normal, but changing course now could be costly.

“Reversing course is going to reverse the results,” Ezike said. “We can not change the path or change gears. Unfortunately, this is not a sprint, but a marathon. I’m begging for everyone’s patience and endurance.”
“Literally if we open the doors, we would just have the same effect that we’ve been trying to prevent, it just would mean we delayed it by several weeks,” she added.
Meanwhile, when the pandemic does pass, Ezike hopes to hit the tennis courts and get outside.
