BLOOMINGTON – Bloomington Mayor Tari Renner this week signed a proclamation “reaffirming” Gov. JB Pritzker’s order limiting gatherings of 10 or more people during the COVID-19 pandemic and stay-at-home order. Now, the Libertarian Party of McLean County is asking that police not enforce such mandates with the threat of arrest or fines, according to our news partner Heart of Illinois ABC.
In that same request, the group is also asking for the immediate release of all convicted nonviolent offenders from the jail to protect them from COVID-19.
Meanwhile, Normal Mayor Chris Koos signed an emergency order allowing police officers to issue tickets or seek criminal charges for violations.
The Libertarian party is also asking that vape shops in the county be able to operate with pickup and delivery, similar to restaurants and bars.
The party argues that vape shops are essential to millions of Americans who have been able to quit smoking with the help of vape products.
