BLOOMINGTON – The general primary election in March is less than a month away, and the McLean County clerk is reminding voters they can cast their ballots early.

Early voting kicked off earlier this month at the County Clerk’s office at 115 E. Washington St., with voting at the Eastland Mall to begin this weekend on February 22.

Clerk Kathy Michael said early voting numbers has been “light” so far, but she is expecting higher numbers has election day draws nearer.

However, mail-in ballots have seen a higher number this year, with over 1,000 ballots received and another 300 to 400 requests mailed. These numbers do not include counts from the Bloomington Election Commission.

People can still register to vote, and vote, with two forms of proper IDs.

It’s past the deadline to register to vote by paper form. One can still register to vote online through midnight, March 1 but must allow three to five days for processing before they get in the system.

Labor Day – Expanding voting rights for all

Pritzker, recall another Illinois Governor who protested the incursion of armed federal personnel into the city.   Those federal troops, rather than calming, escalated the situation, leading to deaths and violence. Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

In these troubled times, to my fellow white Americans

By Mike Matejka Our nation is at a unique watershed in human relations. African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
