Rivian announces new partnership with Lincoln Motor Company

NORMAL – As part of Ford’s investment in electric vehicle maker Rivian, the Lincoln Motor Company announced Wednesday a new partnership with Rivian to develop an all-new electric vehicle using Rivian’s skateboard chassis.

Last April, Ford announced a $500 million investment in Rivian on top of $1.3 billion from T. Rowe Price Associates and $700 million by Amazon.

“Working with Rivian marks a pivotal point for Lincoln as we move toward a future that includes fully electric vehicles,” Lincoln Motor Company President Joy Falotico told CNBC. “This vehicle will take Quiet Flight to a new place – zero emissions, effortless performance, and connected and intuitive technology.”

“Our vehicle development partnership with Ford is an exciting opportunity to pair our technology with Lincoln’s vision for innovation and refinement. We are proud to collaborate on Lincoln’s first fully electric vehicle,” said Rivian CEO RJ Scaringe.

Along with the investments, Rivian announced it would collaborate with Amazon to develop and produce a fleet of 100,000 electric delivery vans using Rivian’s platform technology and manufactured at Rivian’s plant in Normal.

Rivian also plans to build it’s R1T pick-up and R1S SUV later this year.
