NORMAL – The Illinois State Athletics Department will be recognizing and educating the community about LGBTQ+ efforts in the Twin-Cities.
The department will host its first-ever Pride Night on Friday at 7 p.m. during the ISU women’s basketball game against Drake.
The event is a way to acknowledge those who identify as LGBTQ+ and promotes inclusivity and diversity in the community, according to ISU Athletics Director of Marketing Jordan Ashley. She said one goal is to educate the fan base about resources and events on campus.
“We really hope to raise awareness about the LGBTQ+ Student Support Fund. That fund helps provide emergency financial assistance for students who lose financial support from their family due to their sexual orientation or gender identity,” said Ashley.
The Alamo II will be at the game selling ISU pride gear. The store will donate $2 of every purchase to the student support fund.
Additionally, 600 one-of-a-kind ISU Redbird rainbow koozies will be available for fans in attendance.
