LINCOLN – Temperatures will again reach near or above record levels Thursday, with highs mainly in the lower to mid 60s across central Illinois.

The record high for Dec. 26 in the Twin-Cities is 59 degrees which was set in 2016, according to the National Weather Service. 59 degrees is also the current record high for Peoria and Champaign set in 1942.

A cold front will begin to move into the Illinois River valley late this afternoon, and across the remainder of central Illinois tonight, according to the weather service.

Highs on Friday should be about 15-20 degrees cooler in most areas, but still several degrees above normal for late December.

Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
