The Clinton Police Department and Dewitt County Sheriff’s Department will accompany Calvert Funeral Home to the Indianapolis International Airport late Friday for a reception and to escort the funeral coach bringing Clinton native and fellow police officer Blake Newman home to his family.

Newman was most recently an officer for the Phoenix Police Department. He was off-duty Monday night when he lost control of his motorcycle while riding in Glendale, Arizona.

Friday night’s travel will be along Illinois Rt 54 to Center St to Calvert Funeral Home with an estimated arrival between 2-3 a.m..

There will be an abundance of American flags and emergency vehicles lining the route and the approach to Calvert Funeral Home.

The Clinton police department posted on Facebook that the trip is it is the very least the department can do to show respect for this decorated United States Marine Corp veteran and fellow police officer.

Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

By Mike Matejka Our nation is at a unique watershed in human relations. African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
