BLOOMINGTON – A Bloomington man remains jailed for allegedly shaking his five-month old son because he was frustrated the infant was crying and not drinking his milk.
In a probable cause statement presented to the judge, McLean County prosecutors said Jordan Powe, 27, confessed to Bloomington Police that he forcefully shook the baby for about 30 seconds.
Powe allegedly left the child alone in bed for an hour until the man’s mother arrived at the home on Willedrob Road. She found the baby unresponsive, called 911, and tried CPR.
According to the statement that the state’s attorney’s office released Friday, the infant was on a ventilator, continued to have seizures, and was unable to move the right side of his body.
Powe has to post $40,035 in cash to be released from jail on felony charges of aggravated domestic battery and aggravated battery of a child that caused a permanent disability.
His next court appearance is scheduled for December 6.
