NORMAL – In early September, the Gamma Phi Circus at Illinois State University announced it was invited to perform at the 93rd Annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. Now, more exciting news was announced with the addition of Billy Porter to the Gamma Phi performance.
Porter, an award-winning actor, singer, director, composer and playwrite, will perform with Gama Phi as they accompany the first-ever Coach float during the parade.
Throughout the past year Gamma Phi Circus has been celebrating its 90th anniversary and said they were honored to finish out this year-long celebration in front of their largest audience ever with a historic performance with Billy Porter and the Coach float at the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.
According to Illinois State, Gamma Phi was created in 1929 as a gymnastics fraternity. In 1931, the fraternity expanded to a collegiate circus. The group prides themselves in being “America’s oldest circus”.
The parade will begin at 9 a.m. Thursday, November 28.
