PEORIA – Archbishop Fulton Sheen’s beatification is set for next month, according to a news release Monday.
The Diocese of Peoria said Pope Francis called for the ceremony to be held at 10 a.m. on Dec. 21 at the Cathedral of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception in Peoria.
The Cathedral is also the current resting place for Sheen, who is entombed in a marble vault next to the altar where he was ordained 100 years ago.
An El Paso Native, Sheen was buried in New York. After a lengthy legal battle, his remains were brought back to Peoria.
More information about Sheen’s beatification can be found here.
