BLOOMINGTON – State Police and local departments are reminding parents to check Illinois’ sex offender registry before kids head out for trick-or-treating.
ISP’s Tracie Newton said you can easily search the registry by plugging in your zip code or city. She suggests checking the site as an extra line of safety.
“It’s always good to use the registry to know who your neighbors are and make sure if anyone has moved into the neighborhood that they aren’t on the registry,” said Newton.
It’s against the law for convicted sex offenders to hand out candy to kids on Halloween.
The state also has a registry for criminals who commit violent acts against children.
