NORMAL – The Illinois State University quad was filled with walkers Sunday for the McLean County Heart Walk.
The American Heart Association put on the event that has so far raised nearly $46,000.
The money goes toward the association for improving patient care, advocating for better health, reaching out to populations at risk, raising awareness, protecting the future, and educating Americans.
By 2020 their mission is to improve the cardiovascular health of all Americans by 20% while reducing deaths from cardiovascular disease and stroke also by 20%.
“We’re just here to raise awareness on heart disease and stroke. We always have our survivors wear our survivor caps and tribute stickers so they can share who they’re walking in honor of.” said Development coordinator Ashley Ryker
Heart disease is the number one killer of women over age 25.
