UPDATE: Suspect charged after standoff with local police

BLOOMINGTON – A male suspect is in custody after a standoff Friday afternoon with Bloomington and Normal police.

Normal Police Chief Rick Bleichner said the incident began around noon on Friday in the 1100 block of Maplewood Dr. in Normal, where officers responded to a domestic related situation.

Officers located Thomas Lewis, 36, who then fled the scene by car.

Around 3 p.m. officers located the suspect in the 2600 block of Rainbow Ave. at a residence.

Around 5:15 p.m. officers from NPD, with assistance from BPD took Lewis into custody on charges of robbery and two counts of aggravated fleeing.

The charge of robbery is due to an item of value being taken from the victim’s person during the incident.

No bond information is available.

Police continue to investigate the incident.
