SPRINGFIELD – Once again, it’s just too wet to get much work done in the fields.
USDA Illinois crop statistician Mark Schleusener says topsoil moisture is reported adequate in only thirty percent of the state — the rest is reported surplus. Rainfall was 1-3 inches above normal, with a statewide average of 2.6 inches last week.
Corn is 35 percent planted and 20 percent emerged. Fourteen and eight respectively for soybeans. The planting should be almost all done by now.
