NORMAL – An electrical fire broke out Wednesday morning at Parkside Junior High School in Normal.

Unit 5 spokesperson Dayna Brown said the fire started outside in the main buss duct, an original piece of equipment from 1974, which feeds electricity to the school.

Nobody was injured as the school was empty while students are on spring break.  The building was inspected and there was not any damage.

Corn Belt Energy crews were called to begin repairs. The official cause of the fire is still unknown.

Brown said Parkside is expected to re-open Monday as students return from spring break.

Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
