BLOOMINGTON – Bloomington city election commissioners have turned down a challenge keeping Ward 4 alderman candidate Julie Emig on the ballot.
Election commissioners Monday denied the challenge of Regina Noland, who claimed that three pages of Emig’s submitted petitions were left blank and unclear if they were completed in either the State of Illinois or McLean County.
Emig’s attorney, Jeff Brown, said the alleged errors are technical issues that don’t violate the Election Code.
“The notary seal that is affixed to each page of the petition establishes that the notary’s in question are commissioned within the State of Illinois in compliance with the Election Code,” said Brown.
Noland, a resident in Ward 4, said all items on petitions should be counted the same.
“Lets say she didn’t fill in the addresses next to her name at the top of the petition, is that okay?”
Noland has the right to appeal the commissioners ruling in court.
Emig, an Illinois State University professor, remains on the April 2 ballot and faces insurance broker Don “Chip” Frank in Ward 4.
Incumbent Amelia Buragas is not running for a second term and is backing Emig in the race.
