Another day, another vehicle unveiling from our friends at Rivian.
Yesterday the R1T pick up truck was unveiled at the Los Angeles Auto Show and today the curtain was pulled off the R1S – a Sports Utility Vehicle.
Both vehicles will be built in Normal with pre-orders starting this week.
You will need a $1,000 deposit to hold your new car.
You’ll also need a little over Sixty-thousand bucks for your R1T truck.
Mike O’Grady, Vice President of the Bloomington-Normal Economic Development Council, says the the R1T is cutting edge because no one’s looked at making an electric pick-up before now.
Going 250 and 400 miles on a single charge-depends on the model, O’Grady adds most four-wheel drives can’t go the places the R1T can go.
With the unveiling O’Grady says it’s an exciting time in Bloomington-Normal and it took a lot of courage from city officials to get us here by having the foresight to bring Rivian to town.
Rivian plans to hire as many as 1,000 employees at it’s Twin Cities plant to manufacture the “electric adventure” vehicles.
