BLOOMINGTON – A Bloomington-Normal native who served the community in a variety of ways has been honored for his love of others.
William “Bill” Myers has been named this year’s winner of the WJBC Don Munson Spirit of McLean County Award.
WJBC Program Director Fish Martin presented the annual award Thursday at the Red Cross Saluting Our Heroes breakfast.
“This year’s recipient has volunteered and taught hundreds of local youth,” said Martin. “He was a board member and coach…he was a leader of the Boys and Girls Club of Bloomington Normal and he was an active member in his church. His accomplishments just keep going and going.”
Myers passed away on Oct. 4 as his widow Betsy Myers accepted the award on his behalf.
A 1975 graduate of Bloomington High School, Myers worked for the Bloomington Housing Authority for over 30 years retiring as the Director of Technical Services.
The Red Cross handed out nine awards at its annual event.
