The voters of Bloomington will have a decision to make this November surrounding the Bloomington Election Commission.
A hearing held earlier this week saw petitioners Connie Beard and Norma Brown present their 1,345 petition signatures to Circuit Judge Paul Lawerence. Objector Denise Williams presented 10 objections to the court as she stated that more than 500 of the signatures should’ve been discounted from the petition. The court found that 158 signatures were invalid, leaving 1,187 valid signatures.
The 1,000 plus signatures, pursuant to act 10 ILCS 5/6-17, are enough to submit the public question to voters as to whether the BEC will be dissolved.
Wording of the vote on the November ballot will state, “Shall the City Election Law be rejected?”
If Bloomington voters elect to part ways with the BEC, election duties would turn to the county clerk.
